We recently lost a member of our family, Caesar.  She was a retired K-9 with the Kennedale Police Dept. in Texas.  Caesar provided 6 years of service to the citizens and the Kennedale Police Dept.  She also was a big part of our family.  Caesar left this world on Thursday, January 15, 2003 from Liver Cancer.  Although she had been retired for 2 years, she was the only K-9 at that department.

With the saddest regret, I announce that K-9 Cyrus, my partner of 5 years with the Irvington Police Department, my child and best friend, succumbed to cancer on 11/30/03. He gave so much and asked for nothing. He deserved so much more.

HE IS JUST MY DOG
He is my other eyes that see above the clouds,
My ears that hear above the winds.
He is the part of me that can reach out into the sea.
He has told me that am his reason for being.
By the way, he rests against my leg.
By the way, he thumps his tail at my smallest smile.
By the way he shows his hurt
when I leave without taking him.
I think it makes him sick with worry
when he is not with me.
When I am angry, he clowns to make me smile.
When I am happy, he is joy unbounded.
When I am a fool, he ignores it.
When I succeed, he even brags.
Without him, I am only another man.
With him, I am all powerful.
He has taught me the meaning of devotion.
He is loyalty itself.
With him, I know a secret comfort and peace.
He has promised to wait for me, whenever, where ever.
I will always need him as much as he needs me.
"He is just my dog!"

PH TROOPER

Constable Mike & Trooper
AKA. "Danny"
Vancouver Police Mounted Squad

PH Trooper retired after 10 years on the Mounted Squad. As a police horse he attended numerous community events including the Commonwealth Games in Victoria, B.C., the Pacific National Exhibition in Vancouver and the Seattle Seafair parade. He even had a brief career as an actor, appearing in the Jean Claude Van Damme movie "Timecop".
He was an excellent police horse, and wasn't afraid of vehicles or loud noises, which made him invaluable at events such as the Symphony of Fire international fireworks competition.    In 1999 Trooper reached the age of 20, the mandatory retirement age for police horses. He returned to his original owner in Pitt Meadows, B.C.    Trooper unexpectedly passed away at the beginning of 2000. We will miss him deeply.    Constable Mike and Trooper were partners for many years. Mike shares his thoughts about this truly "great" police horse:
"For me, the name will always bring fond memories. Trooper was the first horse I was assigned to when I completed my training. Looking back now, I realize how special that horse was. Despite all my inadequacies as I tried to broaden my riding abilities, Trooper always took care of me.
He was so good, I rode in blissful ignorance for 2 years never really realizing how much he was looking after me. I took that horse everywhere; riding downtown, over bridges, into buildings and he never once did anything to give me any cause for concern. He was so good, I took him for granted. He just did whatever I wanted without hesitation, without fail.     When Trooper retired last fall, we were able to bring him home to his original owner's place, the place he was born and where he lived the first 10 years of his life. He was then known as "Danny". I was there the day we brought him home. I will never forget it. It was like he knew was home.     Trooper was home with his origianl owner, she was as excited as he was. "Danny" was home. Trooper had done his service; 10 years as a police horse. Now he was home. Now he was "Danny" again.
I remember when he retired I made the comment: "there are good police horses and there are great police horses". Trooper was a "great" police horse. I appreciate this now more than ever.    Trooper, I know these sentiments
are shared by the rest of the squad. Thank you for taking care of us. To Trooper's original owner, Jan, he was a wonderful horse, thank you!    Trooper, may the grass always be chest high and long may you run my friend."

K-9 KELLY
September 16, 2003

Partner: CPL Christopher Boujoukos
Suffolk County Sheriff's Dept.
address:
  20 Bradston Street
 Boston, MA  02118.
PH: ?

From the time I first met my husband, all he ever wanted was to be a K-9 Officer.  He finally was granted his wish about 3 years ago.  He received a great Czech shepherd named Kelly.  Kelly was a moody and miserable dog at first, who only enjoyed my husband's company.  After a while, though, he started to love our whole family.  I couldn't believe the transformation in this animal.  My husband enjoyed his job greatly and most of all, loved Kelly.  Kelly finally got his first big drug hit which was 2 1/2 pounds of marijuana just a few short months before he died.  He had bloat, and because of complications of his surgery, he died in September, 2003.  I was so unsure of how to deal with my husband's and my own loss.  I wrote a poem for my husband this year at Christmas time, and had it made into a plaque for him.   My husband's name is Christopher Boujoukos.  He is a Corporal with the Suffolk County Sheriff's Department in Boston, Massachusetts.  I have attached an excellent photo of my husband and Kelly that was taken shortly before his death at a demonstration for some inner city kids in Boston.
DON’T CRY FOR ME (A tribute to K-9 Kelly)

Don’t cry for me, because I’m still here
Sometimes I whisper that in your ear.
A K-9 partner for you, a friend for me
What a match we had begun to be.
So many times with you I’ll never forget
You made me a Deputy and also a pet.
I worked hard for you all the while
Nose to the ground, tracking for miles.
I wore my badge with a sense of pride
Waiting to find the perfect hide.
A love for the job through and through
I would’ve laid down my life for you.
Training together day after day
Work for you, for me just play.
I was invincible with you at my side
A strong personality I couldn’t hide.
The sickness that took me, I tried to fight
Who would ride with my partner at night?
I’m sorry to leave you and take a final fall
You tried to save me, you gave it your all.
Don’t cry for me, because I still roam
It was just my time, God called me home.
