Officer
Lim was in the K-9 office in the WTC basement when he heard an explosion.
He put Sirius in a dog crate while he investigated. Shortly thereafter,
he was assisting people down a staircase in the North Tower when it collapsed.
The officer believes he was at about the 5th level in the stairwell that
was partly standing after the collapse. The smell of jet fuel was heavy
and they elected to go up to the now top of the WTC, the sixth floor. They
were tossed ropes to get down.

Joe Society Honours Four legged Hero

David
Lim stood before the cameras and gave a moving account of the events of
September 11, 2002 that endangered his life and took the life of his four
legged working companion, Sirius. Trained to detect explosives, Sirius
was killed under the collapse of the World Trade Center tower two.
Lim who is attempting to put the events of 9-11 behind him, recounted his
feelings of being trapped for several hours and final escape from the wreckage.
Now working with a new partner, a black Labrador retriever called Sprig,
Lim has returned to his job of checking traffic in the Holland and Lincoln
tunnels. Lim and his boss, Inspector Gene Ceccarelli, traveled to Meaford
from New York City to take part in a ceremony to honour Sirius and the
numerous rescue dogs that assisted in the recovery of both the living and
the dead from the wreckage of the destroyed towers. Officers and dogs from
several K-9 units across Ontario paraded through Meaford’s downtown from
the town hall to the park receiving extended applause from the crowd lined
streets. The Beautiful Joe Heritage Society of Meaford was formed to recognize
the famous 1893 novel of Margaret Marshall Saunders “Beautiful Joe” and
the relationships that exist between dogs and their masters.

I
ONLY WANTED YOU
They
say memories are golden
well
maybe that is true.
I never
wanted memories,
I only
wanted you.
A million
times I needed you,
a million
times I cried.
If love
alone could have saved you
you
never would have died.
|
In
life I loved you dearly,
In death
I love you still.
In my
heart you hold a place
no one
could ever fill.
If tears
could build a stairway
and
heartache make a lane,
I'd
climb the path to heaven
and
bring you back again.
